Connect's consultation submissions
Connect regularly responds to formal consultations on issues that are important to our members.

You can find out more about the work that we do to maintain a long term relationship with policy makers elsewhere in the 'Policy and politics' section.  On this page you will find details of our recent responses to formal consultations.  You can read the responses in full by using the links on the right of this page.

Ofcom - Delivering super-fast broadband in the UK
This joint response with CWU, from December 2008, continues to make the case for the delivery of super-fast UK broadband.  Connect's position remains that this will be essential to UK business, to consumers, the telecoms industry and to our future economic competitiveness.  This document outlines our detailed views on the future regulatory framework which will be required to enable, and not obstruct, future developments in super-fast broadband.

European Commission - Review of European regulation of electronic communicationThis review is at its early stages.  Before considering how, if at all, existing EU regulation should be changed, the European Commission issued a call for input to get the views of various stakeholders.  You can download Connect's submission using the document link on the right.  The review is expected to continue throughout 2006.

Ofcom - Universal service consultation
This review by the communications regulator deals with the universal service obligation, which ensures that everyone - wherever they live, whatever their economic status, whatever their age or disability - has easy and affordable access to a basic range of telecommunications services. Connect gives its views jointly with the Communication Workers Union in our joint submission, which can be downloaded from the documents section of this page.

Women at Work Commission
The Women and Work Commission is a UK government initiative aiming to examine the problem of the gender pay gap and other issues affecting women's employment.  Connect made a submission to the Commission in February 2005.  It backs up the TUC's position on these issues, whilst adding comments specific to our members.  You can download the submission from the documents section.

Ofcom - Review of Telecommunications
This response to the communication regulator's major review of regulation in the telecom sector was submitted jointly with the Communication Workers Union.  It calls on the regulator to put the arguments about breaking up BT's Wholesale and Resale arms to bed once and for all - this idea has little independent support and would only bring chaos and uncertainty.  Instead the regulator should concentrate on how to promote investment in the network and ensuring that everyone has the chance to realise the benefits of the information age.

Ofcom - New voice services
The regulator has also consulted on how to deal with developing new voice services, such as Voice over Internet Protocol.  You can read our response in the documents section.
